A New Life for the BW200: Honda Rebel Shock Conversion Tested in Norway
Share
Over the last year, we've spent countless hours researching and testing different motorcycle shock options in an effort to create a near off-the-shelf rear suspension upgrade for the Yamaha BW200. After a lot of measuring, comparing, and prototyping, we finally put together our first kit and eagerly waited for feedback.
What we didn't expect was this incredibly clean BW200 build from Arne in Norway, who was the first to install and test the setup for us.

This kit utilizes the dual rear shock arrangement from Honda's Rebel lineup, paired with custom-machined spacers developed in-house. The result is a suspension upgrade that offers improved ride quality while maintaining the classic look of the BW200. One of the biggest advantages of using the Rebel shocks is the availability of replacement springs, allowing riders to fine-tune the suspension to match their weight and riding style.

A small amount of modification is required for installation. The upper and lower shock mounting locations will need to be narrowed slightly, as the OEM Honda shock bushings are just a bit wider than the BW200 mounting flanges. Alternatively, the BW200 mounting flanges can be spread slightly to accommodate the wider bushings. We found that making small adjustments to both the shock mounts and the flanges yields the best fitment results.

If you're looking for a solution to tired, worn-out factory suspension, this upgrade may be exactly what you've been waiting for.
A huge thank you to Arne for helping us test the kit and for providing these fantastic photos. We couldn't have asked for a better first installation—and honestly, this BW200 looks absolutely incredible.
